Placebo will perform on Thursday, July 13, 2023, starting with 9:30 pm, in Piazza Napoleone, in Lucca, as part of the Lucca Summer Festival 2023.
PLACEBO
Placebo was formed in London in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Drummer Robert Schultzberg joined the band in 1994, but left in 1996 shortly after the release of the band’s eponymous debut album, due to conflicts with Molko, and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt.
Steve Hewitt left the band in 2007, due to personal and musical differences. He was replaced the following year by Steve Forrest. Placebo released two albums with Steve Forrest, who left in 2015 to pursue his own musical career.
Since 2015, Placebo perform as a duo with four additional live musicians on stage.
The band’s discography consists of seven studio albums, three compilation albums, six extended plays, and thirty-one singles.
Their self-titled debut album was released in 1996, Without You I’m Nothing in 1998, Black Market Music in 2000, Sleeping with Ghosts in 2003, Meds in 2006, Battle for the Sun in 2009, and Loud Like Love in 2013.
To date, the band sold around 11 million records worldwide.
LUCCA SUMMER FESTIVAL
The first edition of the Lucca Summer Festival was held in 1998, when Bob Dylan, George Benson and Joe Cocker performed on stage.
Over time, important names attended the festival, such as David Bowie, James Brown, Mark Knopfler, Jamiroquai, Seal, Zucchero, Ray Charles, Elton John, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Oasis, Anastacia, Giorgia, Green Day, Ennio Morricone, The Rolling Stones, Sting, Scorpions, Alanis Morissette, The Cranberries, Buena Vista Social Club, Joan Baez, Natalie Cole, Youssou N’Dour, and Eagles.
As usual, the Lucca Summer Festival 2023 will take place during the month of July, in Lucca. So far, besides Placebo, the participation of Simply Red, Celine Dion, Blur, KISS and OneRepublic was confirmed.
THE VENUE
Piazza Napoleone is the main square of Lucca, and one of the venues where, every year in the summer, is held one of the most important music festivals in Italy, the Lucca Summer Festival.
Piazza Napoleone is located inside the city walls of Lucca, about 650 meters away from the Lucca railway station. The closest bus stop is Napoleone, located in the northwestern corner of the square, on the bus Lines 5, LAM Blu and LAM Verde.
