HISTORY OF RIMINI:

In 493, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Ostrogoths conquered Rimini. Starting with 553, the town was ruled by the Byzantines, who included it into the Duchy of the Pentapolis, part of the Exarchate of Ravenna. In 728, the town was conquered by Liutprand, King of the Lombards, but returned to the Byzantines in 735.
In 1239, Malatesta da Verucchio was named podestà (chief magistrate) of Rimini, and starting with the 13th century the area was ruled by the House of Malatesta, which held the power until 1528. Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, who lived between 1417 and 1468, was the most famous Lord of Rimini.
In 1797, Rimini was affected by the passage of the Napoleonic army, and became part of the Cisalpine Republic. In 1860, the city was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy.

Today, Rimini is a city of about 150,000 inhabitants in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, and the capital city of the Province of Rimini. From the Rimini Airport, you can take the local bus Line 9 to the Rimini railway station. The trip takes about 25 minutes, and a ticket costs 1.50€ at the vending machine, or 2.00€ if bought on board.
By train, you can get to Rimini from Bologna in about one hour and a half, from Ravenna in about an hour, and from Ancona in an hour and a quarter. The cheapest ticket from Bologna costs 10.80€, from Ravenna is 5.20€, and from Ancona costs 9.55€.
