HISTORY OF MONOPOLI:

During the Middle Ages, Monopoli experienced its maximum expansion, incorporating the nearby towns of Fasano, Locorotondo, Alberobello and Cisternino. Later, the town was disputed between the Byzantines and the Normans, with the climax being the Battle of Monopoli, which took place in 1041.
In the second half of the 13th century, Monopoli passed under the domination of the Angevins, and later submitted to the Aragonese. At the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, the town was under the domination of Venice. Starting with the middle of the 17th century, Monopoli followed the fate of the rest of the Southern Italy, with the domination of the Bourbons, and then with the annexation to the Kingdom of Italy in 1860.

First, from the airport to the Bari Centrale railway station, you can take one of the trains of the private company Ferrotramviaria. A trip from the airport to Bari takes between 15 and 20 minutes, and the ticket costs 5€. Then, from the Bari Centrale railway station to Monopoli, you can take a train operated by Trenitalia. The trip takes about half an hour and the cheapest ticket costs 3.40€.
