Bob Dylan will perform on Friday, July 7, 2023, starting with 9.30 pm, at the Arena Santa Giuliana, in Perugia, as part of the Umbria Jazz Festival 2023.
In 2023, besides the concert in Perugia, Bob Dylan will also appear on stage in Milan, on July 3 and 4, in Lucca, on July 6, for the Lucca Summer Festival 2023, and in Rome, on July 9, for the Roma Summer Fest 2023.
BOB DYLAN
Bob Dylan released his self-titled debut album in 1962, which comprised mainly traditional folk songs.
He made his breakthrough as a songwriter with the release of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan the following year. The album featured Blowin’ in the Wind and A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall.
He released The Times They Are a-Changin’ and Another Side of Bob Dylan in 1964.
In 1965 and 1966, Dylan recorded three of the most important and influential rock albums of the 1960s – Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Dylan explored country music in John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline and New Morning.
In 1975, he released Blood on the Tracks. In the late 1970s, he became a born-again Christian and released a series of albums of contemporary gospel music before returning to his more familiar rock sound in the early 1980s.
His album Time Out of Mind, released in 1997, marked the beginning of a renaissance for his career.
Bob Dylan released five critically acclaimed albums of original material since then, the most recent being Rough and Rowdy Ways, appeared in 2020.
UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL
The first edition of the Umbria Jazz Festival was held in 1973. Since then, every year, during the month of July, Perugia hosts concerts of famous jazz players from around the world.
In recent years, Umbria Jazz Festival also opened its doors to other musical genres.
Besides Bob Dylan, the lineup of the Umbria Jazz Festival 2023 includes names like Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Mika, Brad Mehldau Trio, Branford Marsalis, Rhiannon Giddens, Snarky Puppy, Stewart Copeland, Paolo Conte and Joe Bonamassa.
THE VENUE
Since 2003, the most important concerts of the Umbria Jazz Festival take place on the Arena Santa Giuliana, a stadium in Perugia, used mainly for soccer games.
Arena Santa Giuliana was born in 1937, based on a project by the architect Giuseppe Lilli, to provide the city of Perugia with a real stadium.
The stadium is located in the historical center of the city, about 1.3 kilometers away from the Perugia railway station.
The closest bus stop is located in Via Fratelli Pellas, about 50 meters away, on the bus Lines 102, 103, 104, 105, 112, 114, 115, 117, A, D, E, F022, G, H, I and R.
