Giorgio Moroder – The Celebration of the 80s Tour 2019

Giorgio Moroder, the legendary producer, will perform on Saturday, 18 May 2019, at the Nelson Mandela Forum, in Florence, as part of his The Celebration of the 80s Tour.

Known by many as the godfather of the disco music, if not even the founder of the electronic dance, Giorgio Moroder, at the age of 78, is ready to start a tour that will touch 15 European cities between April and May 2019. The Celebration of the 80’s will see the Italian singer-songwriter, producer and DJ, exhibit the highlights of his prolific career in a spectacular show.

Moroder had an important influence in the music industry for over 55 years, starting in 1963. He was the first to put dance music on a repetitive percussive beat and to abandon the laws of harmony by inserting the synthesizer in his musical projects.

The first recognition came in the 70’s with the music and production for Donna Summer (I Feel Love, On the Radio and Love to Love You Baby). This led to other great collaborations with Cher (Bad Love), Blondie (Call Me), David Bowie (Cat People), Debbie Harry (Rush Rush), Freddie Mercury (Love Kills), Bonnie Tyler (Here She Comes) and Pat Benatar (Here’s My Heart).

Moroder has also composed and produced the soundtracks of many cult films of the ’80s, as American Gigolo, Cat People, Scarface, Electric Dreams, The Never Ending Story, Top Gun and Midnight Express.

Starting with 2013, Moroder performed as a DJ, produced music for the game Racer and contributed to the Daft Punk’s album Random Access Memories. In 2015, Moroder published Déjà Vu, his latest studio album, which includes collaborations with Sia, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and Kelis, among others.

THE VENUE

The Nelson Mandela Forum covers an inside area of 10,000 square meters and an outside area of about 15,000 square meters. Due to its characteristics, the Mandela Forum is multifunctional, being able to host sporting events, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, meetings and all kind of shows.

The venue is right in the city center of Florence, a few hundred meters from the Campo di Marte railway station. The closest bus station is Piscina Costoli, on the bus Lines 10 and 82.
