This itinerary shows how you can combine the best of Italy. Thanks to several low-cost airlines, it is possible to travel in one direction and end up flying back or home. Thanks to a well-developed train network, it is not absolutely necessary to rent a car. Especially in the cities, driving a car in Italy is a challenge.

First stop: Lake Garda

Lake Garda is the most famous lake in Italy and many tourists from Europe spend their vacations here every year. Especially the mountainous landscape at the bottom of the lake is a highlight. Swimming, relaxing, rowing on the lake by boat or hiking – pure relaxation! Plan at least 3 days in one of the numerous hotels around Lake Garda.

2nd stop: Pisa

Everyone knows: the leaning tower of Pisa, a real must see in Italy! A postcard motif known throughout the world.

But there is much more to see in Pisa, the city itself is very worth seeing with its yellow houses. Wonderful is also the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. To it belongs the leaning tower of Pisa, because the tower is only the bell tower that was later built for the church. The Baptistery, the spherical baptistery, is also located directly in Piazza del Duomo. The square is very well maintained and has an almost heavenly appearance. Plan on 1-2 days here.

3rd stop: Rome

Of course, Rome is not to be missed. In the capital of Italy you will find countless ancient cultural buildings, one more interesting than the other! Rome is simply incredibly worth seeing. Some of the most famous places are the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, Piazza di Spagna and the Pantheon. Although there are many good guides, it’s more fun to explore the city on your own – spend at least 3 nights here!

4th stop: Naples

The fourth destination of your Italy itinerary is Naples: The city of a thousand alleys and Christmas cribs. A great and exciting contrast with Rome. Especially trips to the underworld are a must. You should spend one or two nights here.

5th stop: Sorrento

Sorrento is located on the coast of Almafi, which is famous for its wonderful cliffs. The small town offers beaches, paths between high gorges and unforgettable views of the coast. A good rest after the 3 previous towns. Depending on how much time you want to spend on the beach, you can plan 2 to 4 days for this.

Vesuvius

6th stop: Capri

From Sorrento you can take the ferry to this beautiful island. The water shines with the most surprising colors: dark, light, blue and also green. During a boat trip around the island you can explore the beautiful caves. Enjoy the view of the cliffs. You should also snorkel here and enjoy your last days of your Italy itinerary.
