Everything You Need to Know About the Carnival of Venice 2027.

Festa Veneziana 2026 will take place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, in Venice, marking the official start of Carnival celebrations with the iconic Water Parade of the Venice Carnival 2026.

Set in the heart of Venice, this spectacular event unfolds along the legendary Grand Canal, widely considered the most beautiful waterway in the world.

Venice, built entirely on water, offers no more fitting stage for the beginning of its Carnival than the canals themselves. The Grand Canal, which curves in an elegant S-shape through the historic center, becomes a floating theater where tradition, color, and creativity meet.

Palaces dating back centuries reflect on the water as hundreds of decorated boats glide past, transforming the city into a living work of art. The Festa Veneziana 2026 is not just an opening event – it is a celebration of Venice’s maritime soul and rowing heritage.

Carnival of Venice 2026 – A Celebration Between History, Water, and Spectacle

The Carnival of Venice 2026 is one of the world’s most famous cultural festivals, known for its masks, historical costumes, and theatrical atmosphere.

Rooted in centuries-old traditions, the Carnival blends public celebrations with exclusive events, transforming Venice into an open-air stage where past and present coexist.

Among the most anticipated highlights of Venice Carnival 2026 is the Arsenale Water Show, a large-scale nighttime performance that combines water, light, music, and choreography in the historic Arsenale area.

Another prestigious event is The Official Dinner Show of the Venice Carnival, a luxurious evening held in an iconic Venetian palace, where fine dining, live performances, and elaborate historical costumes create an unforgettable experience inspired by the city’s aristocratic past.

Equally important is Festa delle Marie, one of the most heartfelt traditions of the Venice Carnival. This historic reenactment honors an ancient Venetian legend and follows the journey of twelve young women selected to represent grace, tradition, and civic pride.

All these events are framed by the Carnival’s unmistakable atmosphere: masked figures wandering through squares, music filling the streets, and spontaneous performances emerging at every corner.

Yet, it is the Festa Veneziana 2026 that sets everything in motion, opening Venice Carnival 2026 with energy, symbolism, and collective joy.

What Happens at the Festa Veneziana 2026?

The Festa Veneziana 2026, also known as the water parade of the Venice Carnival 2026, takes place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, entirely on water.

Organized in collaboration with the Coordinamento Associazioni Remiere di Voga alla Veneta, the event highlights Venice’s traditional rowing culture and its deep connection to the lagoon.

The parade features around one hundred traditional rowing boats, all richly decorated and rowed by masked participants.

These boats represent different rowing associations and historical styles, celebrating the ancient art of voga alla veneta, the distinctive standing rowing technique unique to Venice.

Leading the procession is the legendary “Pantegana”, a giant papier-mâché rat that has become a humorous and beloved symbol of the Festa Veneziana. As an ironic icon of Venetian folklore, the Pantegana sets a playful tone for the parade, delighting both locals and visitors.

The boats gather around Punta della Dogana at approximately 11:00 AM, one of Venice’s most scenic points where the Grand Canal meets the Giudecca Canal. From there, the water parade slowly moves toward the Rialto area, navigating the entire length of the Grand Canal.

Along the route, the spectacle is enhanced by colorful fumes, balloons, confetti, and coordinated visual effects, creating a dynamic choreography reflected on the water’s surface.

Following the water parade, the celebration continues in the Erbaria area, near Rialto, where music, entertainment, and public festivities extend the Festa Veneziana 2026 atmosphere well beyond the canal.

Due to the scale of the event, ACTV public transport lines 1 and 2 will undergo temporary route changes during the parade, a common measure during major Carnival events on the Grand Canal.

The Festa Veneziana 2026 stands as one of the most authentic and symbolic moments of the Venice Carnival 2026, offering visitors an unforgettable introduction to the magic of the Laggon City.
