THE BAND

Gorillaz is a virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band consists of four animated members: 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs. In reality, Damon Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor, and the band music features collaborations with many artists.

With Gorillaz, Albarn departed from the Britpop of his band Blur, exploring a variety of musical styles including hip hop, electronic music and world music. The band’s debut album, Gorillaz, was released in 2001, and went triple platinum in the UK and double platinum in Europe.

Their second studio album, Demon Days, released in 2005, went six times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US. The band’s third album, Plastic Beach, and their fourth album, The Fall, were both released in 2010. The band’s fifth album, Humanz, was released after a seven-year hiatus in 2017. Their sixth album, The Now Now, appeared in 2018, and their seventh album, Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez, in 2020.

To date, Gorillaz sold over 24 million records worldwide and are cited by Guinness World Records as the world’s Most Successful Virtual Band.

THE VENUE

Arena di Verona is a Roman amphitheater located in the historical center of Verona, in Piazza Bra. The Arena is one of the best preserved amphitheaters in the world, the eighth Roman amphitheater in the world by size and the fourth among those located in Italy.

Arena di Verona is located about 1.5 kilometers from the Verona Porta Nuova railway station. The closest bus stop is near the Arena, on the bus Lines 11, 12, 13, 51, 52, 78, 90, 92, 94, 96, 97, 98, 102, 161, 162, 163, 164 and 165.
