About
Mercato nel Campo (Market in the Campo) is a traditional market held on the first week of December in Piazza del Campo, in Siena. The market is inspired by the Mercato Grande (Great Market) held once a week in Siena, in the 13th century.
On this occasion, around 160 stalls will be placed in Piazza del Campo, which will showcase the best traditional products from all over Italy: pasta, cheese, olive oil, honey, herbs, fruit and vegetables, typical sweets and wine.
The Market will also exhibit typical craft products made by artisans from all over Italy and antiques such as books, drawings and paintings, glass objects, jewels, silver objects and hand-painted artistic ceramics.
The tourists will have the opportunity to observe live the handwork of the artisans in Piazza del Campo, engaged in the binding of books, the processing of wool, weaving with ancient looms and furniture restoration.
During the two days of the Mercato, the Cortile del Podestà of Palazzo Pubblico will host Vinarte – the salon dedicated to the excellent wines of the province of Siena and the whole country. Vinarte will offer a unique opportunity to taste a glass of wine under the Torre del Mangia and also to attend musical and artistic performances.
The tenth edition of MERCATO NEL CAMPO will be held on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, 2018, in the beautiful shell-shaped square Piazza del Campo.
