Sigur Rós will perform on Thursday, July 13, 2023, starting with 9.30 pm, in Piazza Sordello, in Mantua, as part of the Mantova Live Estate 2023.
Besides the concert in Mantua, Sigur Rós will also appear on stage in Rome, on July 9, for the Roma Summer Fest 2023, in Bari, on July 11, for the Locus Festival 2023, and in Lucca, on July 12, for the Lucca Summer Festival 2023.
SIGUR RÓS
Sigur Rós was formed in Reykjavík, in 1994. The band’s lineup comprises of singer and guitarist Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson.
The band is known for their ethereal sound, for the frontman Jónsi’s falsetto vocals, and for their use of bowed guitar.
Their discography consists of seven studio albums, three remix album, five extended plays, one soundtrack album, sixteen singles, twenty-three music videos and two video albums.
MANTOVA LIVE ESTATE
Mantova Live Estate was born in 2019, when Noel Gallagher, Calcutta, Ben Harper and Steve Hackett performed in Piazza Sordello.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 editions were canceled.
In 2022, among the artists who attended the music festival were Placebo, The Zen Circus, Iggy Pop, Sangiovanni and Caparezza.
So far, besides Sigur Rós, the lineup of the Mantova Live Estate 2023 includes names like Sting and OneRepublic.
THE VENUE
Piazza Sordello is a beautiful square in Mantua, dedicated to the Mantuan troubadour of the 13th century, Sordello da Goito.
The square was built in 1330, and is now overlooked by important buildings, such as the Cathedral of San Pietro, Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo Bonacolsi, and Palazzo Bianchi.
The square is located about 1.2 kilometers away from the Mantua railway station. The closest bus stop, Duomo, is located in the northeastern corner of the square, on the bus Lines 4C, 4S, 4T, 6 and 12.
