Deep Purple, formed in Hertford in 1968, is considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock. Originally formed as a psychedelic rock and progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in the 1970s.
The current lineup of the band features Ian Paice (drums), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Gillan (vocals, harmonica, percussion), Steve Morse (guitars), and Don Airey (keyboards).
To date, Deep Purple sold over 100 million copies of their albums worldwide. The band received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
Bologna Sonic Park is a rock music festival which took place for the first time in 2019. The lineup for the first edition of the festival included names like Slipknot, Amon Amarth, Testament, Skunk Anansie, Weezer, Greta Van Fleet and Bring Me the Horizon.
The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the festival was first postponed to 2021, and then rescheduled to 2022. All the artists initially planned for the 2020 edition of Bologna Sonic Park (My Chemical Romance, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and The Chemical Brothers) confirmed their presence for the 2022 edition of the festival.
Palanord is an event space and concert hall in Bologna, located in the Parco Nord area. The hall is close to the natural amphitheater Arena Parco Nord, another venue of the Bologna Sonic Park 2022.
