    PLACEBO

Placebo - Sonic Park Matera 2023Placebo was formed in London in 1994 by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal.

The drummer Robert Schultzberg joined the band in 1994, but left in 1996 shortly after the release of the band’s eponymous debut album, due to conflicts with Molko, and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt.

Steve Hewitt left the band in 2007, due to personal and musical differences. He was replaced the following year by Steve Forrest. Placebo released two albums with Steve Forrest, who left in 2015 to pursue his own musical career.

Since 2015, Placebo perform as a duo, with four additional live musicians on stage.

The band’s discography consists of eight studio albums, three compilation albums, six extended plays, and thirty-one singles.

Their self-titled debut album was released in 1996, Without You I’m Nothing in 1998, Black Market Music in 2000, Sleeping with Ghosts in 2003, Meds in 2006, Battle for the Sun in 2009, and Loud Like Love in 2013.

Their last album to date, Never Let Me Go, was released in March 2022.

    THE VENUE

Cava del Sole, located on the outskirts of Matera, is a limestone quarry abandoned in the 1950s, which, starting from the 1990s, was redeveloped, becoming an incredible location for musical and theatrical events, with a capacity of up to 7.000 seats.

Cava del Sole is located on the ancient Via Appia (the current Strada Statale 7), about 2.7 kilometers away from the Matera Centrale railway station. The best way to reach the venue is by taxi.
