Elton John will perform at the Lucca Summer Festival 2019, in the main square of the city, Piazza Napoleone, on Sunday, July 7, 2019, as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. In 2019, it will be the sixth time Elton John will sing within the famous City Walls of Lucca.
The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour started on September 8th in the USA, and it will consist of more than 300 shows across the 5 continents (North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia), before reaching its conclusion in 2021.
This is the last tour of the superstar, the end of half a century on the road for one of the most enduring pop performers in the world. The setting of Elton’s new stage will take his fans on a visual musical journey through a 50-year career of hits.
THE ARTIST
The results achieved by Elton John in his career are unprecedented. Elton is one of the most successful solo artists of all time, with 38 gold records and 31 platinum and multi-platinum albums, more than 50 tracks in the Top 40 and with more than 300 million records sold worldwide. He holds the record for the single with the most sales, Candle in the Wind 1997, which has sold more than 33 million copies.
Diamonds, his Ultimate Greatest Hits album, reached the Top 5 in the UK album charts at the time of its publication, in November 2017, becoming Elton’s fortieth album to enter the British Top 40 and earning the gold record at the end of the year.
To date, Elton has held more than 4,000 performances in more than 80 countries from his first tour of 1970. Among the many awards and honors awarded to him, there are 5 GRAMMY, including a GRAMMY Legend Award, a Tony and an Oscar, a Best British Male Artist BRIT Award, admission to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Kennedy Center Honors, a Legend of Live Award, 13 Ivor Novello Awards and the knighthood received by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for services to music and charity.
THE FESTIVAL
Lucca Summer Festival is a music festival held every year in Lucca during the month of July, since 1998. The concerts are usually held in one of the main squares of Lucca, at the Porta Elisa soccer stadium or at the Pini stadium in Viareggio.Apart from the Elton John performance, the 2019 edition of the festival will host concerts of the English pop band Take That, on June 28, American band Toto, on July 5, and Mark Knopfler, on July 13.
