    Festa di San Marco 2023 will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in the beautiful city of Venice. The Feast of Saint Mark is a religious celebration dedicated to Saint Mark the Evangelist, the patron saint of Venice, which is held every year on April 25.   SHORT HISTORY In the distant past, the Feast of Saint Mark was celebrated three times a year. The first date of the feast was January 31. According to legend, on this day, in the year 828, the body of Saint Mark was stolen from Alexandria, in Egypt, and brought to Venice by two Venetian merchants, with the help of a servant named Basilio. The second feast dedicated to Saint Mark took place on April 25, on the date of his death and martyrdom. The third day of celebration was June 25, in memory of the discovery of his relics, which, according to tradition, appeared inside a column during the Mass held for the consecration of the Basilica of San Marco, in 1094.     Festa della Sensa 2023 will take place on the weekend of May 20 and 21, 2023, in the beautiful city of Venice. The Feast of the Ascension is one of the most evocative Venetian traditions, which recalls important moments in the history of the Republic of Venice, through the ceremony of Marriage of the Sea (Sposalizio del Mare). On this occasion, various regattas are held in the Venetian Lagoon. The Ascension Day Feast is, without doubt, one of the most anticipated and appreciated events in the Venetian calendar, not only by locals, but also by tourists.   SHORT HISTORY Festa della Sensa was born on the day of the Ascension of Christ, to commemorate two very important moments in the history of Venice. The first event occurred on May 9, in the year 1000, when the Doge Pietro Orseolo defeated the Slavs who threatened Dalmatia, allowing Venice to become the absolute power of the Adriatic Sea.     Festa del Redentore 2023

    Festa del Redentore 2023 (Feast of the Redeemer 2023), one of the most important events in the Venetian calendar, will take place in the weekend of July 15-16, 2023, in Venice. Every year since 1577, when the city of Venice was liberated from a terrible plague, the Feast of the Redeemer is celebrated in the third weekend of July. At first, the feast was a purely religious event, but over the centuries profane elements were added to the religious manifestations, and today the celebration includes a party, a regatta, and one of the most impressive fireworks display in the world. The feast is also known as Festa Famosissima (Most Famous Feast).   SHORT HISTORY Between 1575 and 1577, a merciless plague killed about one-third of Venice’s population. The epidemic spread rapidly throughout the city and was difficult to control due to the precarious conditions in which the people lived.   INTERESTING FACT: One of the victims of the 1576 epidemic was the painter Titian (Tiziano Vecellio).     Festa della Salute 2023

    Festa della Salute 2023 will take place on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in the beautiful city of Venice. Festa della Madonna della Salute, commonly known as Festa della Salute, is a religious feast which takes place every year on November 21 – the day of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in many places in the Veneto region, but also in Trieste and the area of Istria and Dalmatia, in Croatia. The feast, dedicated in particular to locals and less known by tourists, has a strong religious character. The celebration takes the form of a pilgrimage which starts from the San Marco sestiere (district), from the Church of Santa Maria del Giglio, and ends in the sestiere of Dorsoduro, in front of the Church of Santa Maria della Salute, crossing the Grand Canal on a votive bridge specially built for this occasion.
