The Italian singer Andrea Bocelli will perform on Friday, August 30, 2019, on the magical Sicilian stage of Teatro Antico (Ancient Theater), in Taormina.
The Andrea Bocelli concert at the Ancient Theater of Taormina, one of the most fascinating theaters in the world, is promoted by the Taormina Arte Sicilia Foundation and organized by Due Punti Eventi, a leading company in Italy in the organization and management of live performances.
THE ARTIST
Andrea Bocelli was born on September 22, 1958, in Lajatico, Tuscany. At an early age, he was diagnosed with congenital glaucoma, and became completely blind at age 12, after a football accident.
His big break came when he recorded the song Miserere for Zucchero. The recording was sent to the tenor Luciano Pavarotti, for whom the track was originally written, and Pavarotti encouraged Zucchero to use Bocelli for the song. In the end, Bocelli and Pavarotti performed Miserere together, which became a European hit.
In 1994, Bocelli competed in the Sanremo Festival. That same year, Bocelli released his first album in Italy, Il Mare Calmo Della Sera. He scored a major hit in Europe with Con Te Partiro. The song later became a popular duet with Sarah Brightman, under the title Time to Say Goodbye, which was included on his 1997 album, Romanza.
Over time, Andrea Bocelli recorded 15 solo studio albums of both pop and classical music, 3 greatest hits albums and 9 complete operas, selling over 90 million records worldwide.
In 2018, after 14 years, Andrea Bocelli released an incredible new album of original songs, entitled Si (Yes). The album contains duets with Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Josh Groban, Aida Garifullina and Matteo Bocelli, his son.
THE VENUE
The Ancient Theater of Taormina is an ancient Greek theater built around the third century BC. With a diameter of 120 metres, the theater is the second largest of its kind in Sicily, after that of Syracuse, and it is frequently used for theatrical performances and concerts.
The theater is located about 450 meters away from the Porta Messina, the main entrance of the town, where is also found a bus station to the Taormina-Giardini train station. The train station is about 3.2 kilometers away, or about 50 minutes on foot.

3 of us paid over $300 per ticket to see his concert in Taormina plus flights and hotel. At the onset the announcer requests people not video. Flashes were going off like crazy and a woman behind us had the audacity to turn on a bright LCD light to film him disturbing all of us around her while her husband barked at us to shut up and mind our own business. Meanwhile none of the ushers did nothing. We contacted his website to explain and request a portion of our money – twice. No response. Don’t waste your time or money.
Beautiful Yet Disappointing. We thoroughly enjoyed Signore Bocelli. Despite his request of no cameras or flashes, there were a plethora of flashes – 9 in front of us, then a woman behind us turned her movie camera along with a spotlight that lit our entire section up. Some experiences are meant to be enjoyed by the heart and memory. The disturbances were beyond rude and took away from the expensive performance. Anyone else have similar complaints about the audience’s onnoxiousness?
