Infiorata di Noto 2022, the 43rd edition of the famous flower festival, will most likely take place in the weekend of May 13-15, 2022, in Via Corrado Nicolaci, in Noto.

Infiorata di Noto is part of the Baroque Spring (Primavera Barocca), a series of events including concerts, craft exibitions and the Baroque Procession (Corteo Barocco), consisting of people in period costumes, flag-wavers and musicians, who parade through the streets of the historical center of the town.

    SHORT HISTORY

Infiorata di Noto was born 40 years ago from the meeting of the Noto floral artists with the ones from Genzano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Rome, where this pictorial technique was developed.

Beginning with 1980, every year, in the third weekend of May, Noto, the Stone Garden, as it was called by the historian Cesare Brandi, welcomes in the heart of its historical center an explosion of color and perfume.

On this occasion, Via Corrado Nicolaci, 122 meters long and 7 meters wide, is divided into 16 sectors of 6 by 4 meters, that represent the canvas on which the artists will carefully paint with flowers. The flower carpet covers an area of about 700 square meters.

The theme of the event changes from year to year, and is usually inspired from religion, mythology, art or local folklore.

    CALENDAR OF EVENTS

On Friday, May 13, in the afternoon, the artists who won the competition for the design of the floral panels, will come into the possession of one of the 16 sectors assigned to them in Via Nicolaci, and will begin to draw with special chalks the sketch of their future work.

On Saturday, May 14, they will begin to cover the traced design with flowers specially grown for the event, until the painting will be completed, most often in the early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, May 15, the contest will begin, with locals and tourists alike waiting their turn to admire the wonderful mosaic of petals, until late in the evening.

On Monday, the influx of tourists will continue, until the evening, when the wilted flowers will be removed.
