Born on April 25, 1994, Sam Fender grew up in the working-class town of North Shields, a place that deeply influences his music.

His upbringing in a close-knit community exposed him to the struggles and triumphs of ordinary people, themes that resonate throughout his lyrics.

Fender’s passion for music began in his teenage years when he picked up a guitar and started writing songs inspired by his surroundings and personal experiences.

Sam Fender’s early career was marked by gigs in local pubs and small venues, where his raw talent and distinct voice quickly caught attention.

A significant breakthrough came in 2013 when he was discovered by Ben Howard’s manager, Owain Davies, who saw the potential in Fender’s storytelling and vocal prowess.

In 2017, Fender released his debut single, Play God, a politically charged track that showcased his ability to combine catchy melodies with thought-provoking lyrics. The song gained traction on streaming platforms, setting the stage for his rise.

However, it was his 2018 single Dead Boys that truly catapulted him into the spotlight. Tackling the harrowing issue of male suicide, Dead Boys highlighted Fender’s willingness to address taboo subjects with sensitivity and honesty.

Fender’s breakthrough led to his inclusion in the BBC’s Sound of 2018 list, marking him as an artist to watch.

In the same year, he signed with Polydor Records, releasing his debut EP, Dead Boys, which further solidified his reputation as a rising star.

Sam Fender’s debut album, Hypersonic Missiles, released in 2019, was a critical and commercial success.

The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and featured standout tracks like Will We Talk?, The Borders, and the title track Hypersonic Missiles.

Fender’s lyrical themes ranged from love and heartbreak to social inequality and mental health, resonating deeply with fans and critics alike.

In 2021, Fender released his sophomore album, Seventeen Going Under. The record was a deeply personal exploration of his youth, struggles with mental health, and reflections on growing up in a working-class community.

Songs like Spit of You and Seventeen Going Under showcase his growth as a songwriter, blending vulnerability with soaring melodies.

The album earned widespread acclaim and further cemented Fender’s position as one of the defining artists of his generation.
