The Ferrara Summer Festival is a major open-air music event held annually in Ferrara, a Renaissance city in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Established in the early 2020s, the festival has rapidly grown into a prominent stop on European touring circuits, hosting international artists across rock, metal, pop, and electronic music.

The Venue – Piazza Ariostea

Originally known as Piazza Nuova and later briefly as Piazza Napoleone, Piazza Ariostea is located in the northern section of Ferrara’s historic center. Its distinctive oval-rectangular layout sets it apart from traditional Italian squares and contributes to its strong visual identity.

In 1933, the square was redesigned with a recessed central area for the Palio di Ferrara, one of Italy’s oldest horse races. This architectural feature also enhances acoustics, making the square particularly suitable for concerts and large public events.

At the center of the square stands a monumental 16th-century column designed by Ercole Grandi, topped since 1833 by a statue of Ludovico Ariosto, the celebrated poet and author of Orlando Furioso.
