About
Europe will perform on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, starting with 9.30 pm, in Parco delle Caserme Rosse, in Bologna, at the Sequoie Music Park 2025.
EUROPE
Europe, a Swedish rock band formed in 1979, rose to international fame in the 1980s with their catchy melodies, powerful guitar riffs, and iconic keyboard hooks.
Founded by vocalist Joey Tempest and guitarist John Norum, the band initially gained attention with their victory in a Swedish rock talent competition, which led to their debut album, Europe, in 1983.
This album, along with their 1984 follow-up, Wings of Tomorrow, showcased their talent and helped them build a loyal fan base in Scandinavia and Japan.
Their true breakthrough came with the release of their third album, The Final Countdown, in 1986.
The title track, The Final Countdown, became a worldwide hit, featuring a memorable synthesizer riff that propelled it to No. 1 on charts across Europe and the United States.
The album also included other successful singles, such as Rock the Night and Carrie, a power ballad that showcased the band’s softer side and reached the Top 10 in the U.S.
Europe’s 1988 album, Out of This World, solidified their place in the rock scene with hits like Superstitious, but it didn’t reach the commercial heights of its predecessor.
Their next album, Prisoners in Paradise (1991), came as grunge began dominating the music scene, and Europe struggled to maintain their previous level of popularity.
After a hiatus in the 1990s, the band reunited in 2003, bringing a heavier, more modern sound with albums like Start from the Dark (2004) and Secret Society (2006).
The band’s later work, including Last Look at Eden (2009) and Bag of Bones (2012), showed a mature rock style, blending their classic sound with blues and hard rock influences.
Europe continues to tour and record, drawing both nostalgic fans and new listeners.
While they are often associated with their 1980s success, the band has maintained relevance with their musical adaptability and dedication to their craft.
Their enduring hit, The Final Countdown, remains a cultural touchstone and one of the most recognizable rock anthems worldwide, cementing Europe’s place in rock history.
