Sting

Born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner on October 2, 1951, in Wallsend, Northumberland, England, Sting first rose to international fame as the frontman, principal songwriter and bassist for the influential rock band The Police, active from 1977 until their initial breakup in 1986.

Sting’s early musical life began in jazz ensembles – most notably the group Last Exit – during his youth before his meteoric rise with The Police. With that band, he helped define a sound that blended rock with reggae, punk, and pop sensibilities, resulting in multiple chart-topping hits.

The Venue – Arena Santa Giuliana

The Arena Santa Giuliana, also known as Santa Giuliana Stadium, was built in 1937 based on a design by architect Giuseppe Lilli to provide Perugia with a formal sports stadium.

Located near the historic heart of Perugia, the stadium was originally a football and multi-purpose venue, hosting matches and athletic events throughout much of the 20th century.

Since 2003, it has become one of the principal stages for the Umbria Jazz Festival, accommodating some of the most anticipated concerts of the summer program.

Located approximately 1.3 kilometers from the main Perugia railway station, Arena Santa Giuliana sits within the city’s historic center, a short distance from Perugia’s charming streets and landmarks and easily reachable on the evening of the show.

From Perugia railway station to Arena Santa Giuliana:

On Foot: The walk from the station to the venue takes around 15-20 minutes uphill through Perugia’s scenic streets, ideal for festivalgoers who enjoy a stroll and want to soak in local atmosphere.
Public Transport: Buses stop nearby, particularly on Via Fratelli Pellas, only about 50 meters from the venue. Lines include 102, 103, 104, 105, 112, 114, 115, 117, A, D, E, F022, G, H, I, and R, linking the station area with central Perugia and the stadium vicinity.
Taxi or Ride-Share: For convenience – especially with gear or for late-night returns – taxis are readily available near the station and throughout the city center.
