On Saturday, 4 July 2026, the legendary British funk and acid-jazz band Jamiroquai will take the stage at Lucca Summer Festival 2026, performing their only Italian show of the year.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM. The venue for the evening is the historic “Ex Ballila” area (also referred to as the former Ballila Field) – a site deeply intertwined with the storied tradition of Lucca’s summer music celebrations.

For fans of Jamiroquai and lovers of live music alike, this promises to be a highlight of the summer festival season in Tuscany.
 

Jamiroquai

Formed in London in 1992, Jamiroquai quickly established themselves as a leading act in the early-’90s British acid jazz scene.

Fronted by singer and songwriter Jay Kay (real name Jason Luís Cheetham), the band has undergone multiple lineup changes over the decades – but Jay Kay has remained the one constant member.

Musically, Jamiroquai started with a core rooted in acid jazz and funk, later incorporating a broad mix of soul, disco, electronic, Latin, and dance influences. The band’s lyrics occasionally addressed social and environmental issues, giving depth beyond pure groove and dance vibes.

Over the years, their discography has grown impressively. Among their most significant studio albums are:

• Emergency on Planet Earth (1993) – their debut under the Acid Jazz label, later reissued via Sony.
• The Return of the Space Cowboy (1994)
• Travelling Without Moving (1996) – widely regarded as their breakthrough album, especially internationally.
• Synkronized (1999) – continued their evolution as they experimented with funk, disco and more dance-oriented sounds.
• A Funk Odyssey (2001) – reflecting their growing taste for disco, house and Latin-influenced rhythms.
• Dynamite (2005) – embracing more electronic and contemporary influences.
• Rock Dust Light Star (2010) – combining rock, funk and soul elements in a matured, modern sound.

 
In addition to studio albums, Jamiroquai has released compilation records (e.g. Late Night Tales: Jamiroquai in 2003) and live recordings/DVDs – for instance Live in Verona (recorded in 2002) documenting their early-2000s live shows in Italy.

As of their peak periods, the band had sold over 26 million albums worldwide.

Their influence has been substantial: the Travelling Without Moving album was recognized (by Guinness World Records) as the best-selling funk album in history.

Their 1996 single Virtual Insanity became an instant classic – its innovative music video won “Video of the Year” at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards, and in 1998 the band earned a Grammy Award thanks to it.

Through the decades, Jamiroquai has maintained a dedicated global fanbase, balancing nostalgic reverence for their ’90s/early-2000s funk roots with reinvention and evolution across genres.
 

Lucca Summer Festival 2026

The Lucca Summer Festival (LSF) is widely regarded as one of Italy’s premier summer music events. First held in 1998, it has over the years hosted a long list of legendary artists across generations and genres – from rock to soul, blues to pop, funk to R&B.

Each summer, the city of Lucca transforms: its historic center, charming alleys, restaurants, cafés and local businesses come alive, ready to welcome a wave of music lovers from around Italy and beyond.

The 2026 edition promises to continue that tradition. According to official announcements, the festival will feature headline performances across July – with Jamiroquai scheduled for Saturday, 4 July 2026, marking their only Italian date on the tour.

The Venue – Ex Ballila (Ex Campo Ballila)

The 2026 concert by Jamiroquai will be hosted at Ex Ballila – a venue associated with the historic walls of Lucca.

Historically, most concerts of Lucca Summer Festival occurred in central locations such as Piazza Napoleone, but for bigger events, the festival organizers have increasingly used Ex Ballila on the city’s walls, which is capable of hosting many thousands of spectators.

Lucca railway station is located just outside the historic city walls. The Ex Ballila area is set on or near the old city walls (the “mura urbane”) – so from the station one typically walks or uses local transport to enter the city center and reach the walls.

• On foot / walking: For those coming by train to Lucca railway station, walking into the historic center and onto the walls is often the easiest – Lucca is compact enough to allow access to central and wall-area venues with a 10-20 minute walk, depending on your pacing and where exactly you aim to enter the walls.
• Local transport/ shuttle/ taxi: For convenience (especially if you carry luggage or arriving from farther), you can use local taxi services (for example Radiotaxi – contact info often provided by festival organizers) or shuttle/parking solutions included among the festival amenities.
