Buy tickets:TicketOneMuse will perform at Lucca Summer Festival on Saturday, July 17, 2027, marking the British rock band’s first appearance at the festival. The concert will take place at Mura Storiche, in the Ex Campo Balilla area beside Lucca’s Renaissance walls, and is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM.
The Muse concert in Lucca has been announced as the band’s only Italian date of 2027. Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard will bring to Tuscany a live repertoire spanning more than three decades, alongside material from their tenth studio album, The Wow! Signal, released in June 2026.
The show is part of the special 2027 edition of Lucca Summer Festival, which celebrates the festival’s 30th anniversary. Unlike the usual format combining different locations, the anniversary programme is planned entirely in the Mura Storiche area, the large open-air space next to Lucca’s historic fortifications.
Muse
Muse are an English rock band formed in Teignmouth, Devon, in 1994. The permanent trio consists of Matt Bellamy on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards, Chris Wolstenholme on bass and backing vocals, and Dominic Howard on drums and percussion. The three musicians have remained the core of the band throughout its recording career.
The group developed a musical identity incorporating alternative rock, progressive rock, hard rock, electronic elements and orchestral influences. Bellamy’s falsetto vocals, prominent guitar work and extensive use of keyboards became particularly identifiable elements, while Wolstenholme and Howard provide the bass and rhythmic foundation of the trio’s sound.
Muse’s early international growth accelerated after the release of their first albums and extensive touring. Their concerts subsequently expanded from clubs and theatres to arenas, festivals and stadiums, with increasingly elaborate stage productions accompanying a catalogue built around guitar-driven rock, electronic textures and large-scale arrangements.
Among the songs most closely associated with the band are Plug In Baby, Time Is Running Out, Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight, Knights of Cydonia, Uprising, Resistance, Madness and Psycho. Supermassive Black Hole remains their highest-charting UK single, having reached number four.
Muse have also repeatedly performed at major international events and large stadium venues. In 2007, they became the first band to sell out the rebuilt Wembley Stadium in London. Their reputation as a live act has subsequently been recognised by several industry awards specifically connected with concert performance.

Muse Discography
The Muse discography begins with Showbiz, released in 1999. The album introduced the group’s early alternative-rock sound and Bellamy’s vocal style. It was followed in 2001 by Origin of Symmetry, which reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and included tracks such as Plug In Baby and New Born.
Their third studio album, Absolution, arrived in 2003 and became Muse’s first UK number-one album. It included Time Is Running Out and Hysteria and represented an important commercial expansion for the band, combining heavy guitar sections with piano, electronic elements and large-scale arrangements.
Black Holes and Revelations followed in 2006, also reaching number one in the United Kingdom. Its singles included Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight and Knights of Cydonia. The album extended the band’s use of electronic music and became one of the most commercially successful releases in their catalogue.
In 2009, Muse released The Resistance. The album again topped the UK chart and included Uprising, Resistance and the three-part Exogenesis: Symphony. Uprising became the band’s first single to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 Top 40, while the album later earned Muse their first Grammy Award.
The band continued with The 2nd Law in 2012 and Drones in 2015. Both reached number one in the United Kingdom, while Drones also became Muse’s first album to top the Billboard 200 in the United States. The latter subsequently won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
Simulation Theory was released in 2018, followed by Will of the People in 2022. The latter became the band’s seventh consecutive studio album to debut at the top of the UK Albums Chart, continuing a number-one sequence that had begun with Absolution almost two decades earlier.
Muse released their tenth studio album, The Wow! Signal, on June 26, 2026. The record entered the UK Albums Chart at number one, giving the group an eighth consecutive UK number-one studio album. This placed Muse alongside ABBA and Led Zeppelin in the record books for consecutive chart-topping albums by a group.
Muse Awards and Sales
Over more than three decades, Muse have sold more than 30 million records worldwide. Their commercial results include multiple number-one albums, extensive international touring and strong catalogue sales, with releases such as Black Holes and Revelations, Absolution and The Resistance becoming major milestones in their recording career.
The band have received two Grammy Awards, both in the Best Rock Album category. The Resistance won at the 2011 ceremony, while Drones received the same award in 2016. Muse have also accumulated additional Grammy nominations, including recognition for The 2nd Law and the song Kill or Be Killed.
Muse have twice won the BRIT Award for British Live Act, receiving the prize in 2005 and again in 2007. The second victory followed their growing stadium presence and confirmed the importance of live performance within the band’s career, alongside their commercial achievements in recorded music.
Their awards history also includes recognition from the MTV Europe Music Awards, NME Awards, Q Awards and other international organisations. In 2012, the band received the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement, an honour presented by the British songwriting community for their success outside the United Kingdom.
Venue – Mura Storiche (Ex Balilla)
The Ex Campo Balilla area has a long association with sport in Lucca. Football was played there for decades, and historical records also identify the site as an early sporting area beneath the city walls. It later became a large open green space suitable for public events and major outdoor productions.
The present walls surrounding Lucca originated from a major Renaissance defensive project. Formal preparations began in 1513, while the principal construction site opened in 1544 and work continued until 1650. The fortifications responded directly to the spread of firearms and developments in European military architecture.
The completed defensive system extends for more than four kilometres around Lucca’s historic centre. It incorporates monumental bastions, gates, parade grounds, underground structures and former military spaces. Despite their imposing design, the walls were never required to defend Lucca against a major siege.
As their military importance declined, the fortifications acquired a different role. During the nineteenth century, their upper surfaces were progressively developed into the tree-lined promenade seen today. The continuous route around the historic centre has since become one of Lucca’s defining urban landmarks and an important public green space.
The Ex Balilla area provides substantially more space than the festival’s traditional Piazza Napoleone setting. This allows large concert productions to be installed beside the Renaissance fortifications when audience size and technical requirements exceed what can comfortably be accommodated within Lucca’s central historic squares.
Major festival events have previously demonstrated the scale of the area. The Rolling Stones performed beside the walls in 2017 for an audience of more than 55,000 people, while other large productions have also used the Mura Storiche setting when the required capacity was significantly greater than that of Piazza Napoleone.
How to Get to Mura Storiche (Ex Balilla)
On foot: Lucca railway station is located immediately south of the historic walls and approximately 500 metres from the Ex Campo Balilla area, depending on the access point used. Visitors arriving by train can walk towards the southern section of the fortifications and continue in the direction of Viale Carducci.
By bus: Several local and regional services stop on Viale Carducci, close to the concert area. Routes currently serving the avenue include 5, 6, 51, 53, 57 and 59, together with additional connections. Temporary diversions are possible when roads surrounding the venue are restricted for major festival events.
By taxi: Lucca has taxi ranks at several locations, including the area around Lucca railway station. Radiotaxi Lucca operates on +39 0583 1745, while another local taxi service can be reached on +39 0583 1646464. Demand and journey times may increase substantially before and after large concerts.
Lucca Summer Festival 2027
Lucca Summer Festival 2027 celebrates 30 years since the festival was founded in 1998. The first edition included Bob Dylan, George Benson and Joe Cocker, establishing an international profile that expanded significantly during subsequent editions and turned the Tuscan city into a regular stop for major touring artists.
Across its history, the festival has hosted performers from several generations and genres. Its previous programmes have included Elton John, David Bowie, Ray Charles, The Eagles, Oasis, Eric Clapton, Roger Waters, Leonard Cohen, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Ed Sheeran and Bob Dylan, among many other international and Italian artists.
The event traditionally combines concerts in Piazza Napoleone with larger shows in the Mura Storiche area. For the 30th-anniversary edition, however, organisers have announced that all concerts will be staged at the Historic City Walls Area, creating a unified venue format for the 2027 programme.
Muse were the third act announced for the anniversary edition. Take That are scheduled to perform on July 20, 2027, as part of The Dreamers Tour, while Simply Red will appear on July 30 with Summer Funk ’27. Additional concerts may be announced as the festival programme develops.
The July 17 performance therefore combines two firsts: it will be Muse’s debut at Lucca Summer Festival and their first concert in the Mura Storiche setting. The confirmed appearance also carries additional significance for Italian audiences because organisers have designated Lucca as the band’s only Italian concert of 2027.
