On July 18, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the historic city of Ferrara will once again become a focal point for metal fans across Europe as Helloween take the stage at Ferrara Summer Festival 2026.

The German metal legends will perform in the atmospheric Piazza Ariostea, joined by special guests Wind Rose and Visions Of Atlantis, who will open the evening with their distinctive takes on modern power and symphonic metal.

Set within Ferrara’s Renaissance urban landscape, this concert promises a night that bridges generations of metal, from the pioneers of European power metal to contemporary bands redefining the genre.

The July 18 event stands out as one of the most melodic yet powerful dates of the festival, celebrating fantasy, speed, and epic storytelling through music.

Helloween

Formed in 1984 in Hamburg, Germany, Helloween are widely recognized as one of the founding bands of power metal.

Alongside contemporaries such as Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray, Helloween helped define a sound characterized by fast tempos, twin-guitar harmonies, soaring vocals, and lyrical themes inspired by fantasy, mythology, and personal struggle.

Helloween emerged from the German heavy metal underground during the mid-1980s. Their debut album, Walls of Jericho (1985), introduced a raw and speed-driven sound that laid the groundwork for what would become European power metal.

Songs like Ride the Sky and How Many Tears showcased a blend of aggression and melody that distinguished the band from traditional heavy metal acts.

Wind Rose and Visions Of Atlantis

Opening the evening, Wind Rose are an Italian power metal band formed in 2009, best known for their distinctive dwarven fantasy theme, heavily inspired by Tolkien’s Middle-earth mythology.

Their music combines traditional power metal with folk elements and choral arrangements.

Albums such as Stonehymn, Wintersaga, and Warfront have earned Wind Rose a strong international following, with songs like Diggy Diggy Hole becoming viral hits within the metal community.

Their theatrical costumes and epic atmosphere make them a perfect opener for Helloween’s fantasy-driven sound.

Also performing in support are Visions Of Atlantis, a symphonic metal band founded in 2000 and based in Austria and Italy. Known for their dual-vocal approach and nautical themes, the band blends orchestral arrangements with power metal energy.

Albums such as The Deep & the Dark, Pirates, and Pirates II – Armada have positioned Visions Of Atlantis as a leading name in modern symphonic metal. Their live performances emphasize cinematic storytelling, making them a fitting addition to the July 18 lineup.

Ferrara Summer Festival 2026

The Ferrara Summer Festival is an annual open-air music event held in Ferrara, a UNESCO World Heritage city in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region.

Since its launch in the early 2020s, the festival has grown rapidly, hosting major international artists across genres such as rock, metal, pop, and electronic music.

The festival was designed to merge Ferrara’s historical identity with contemporary culture, transforming public squares into large-scale concert venues.

Each edition spans several weeks during June and July, with individual dates dedicated to specific artists or musical styles.

The Venue – Piazza Ariostea

Originally known as Piazza Nuova and briefly as Piazza Napoleone, Piazza Ariostea is located in the northern section of Ferrara’s historic center. Its distinctive oval-rectangular shape makes it one of the city’s most recognizable public spaces.

In 1933, the square was redesigned to include a recessed central area for the Palio di Ferrara, one of Italy’s oldest horse races. This architectural feature also enhances acoustics, making Piazza Ariostea particularly suitable for large outdoor concerts.

At the center of the square stands a monumental 16th-century column designed by Ercole Grandi, topped since 1833 by a statue of Ludovico Ariosto, the celebrated poet and author of Orlando Furioso.

Piazza Ariostea is located approximately 2 kilometers from Ferrara railway station, offering easy access for visitors traveling by rail.
