Luminara di Santa Croce 2026 – Lucca’s Sacred Night of Light and Faith

    Date: 13 September 2026

Luminara di Santa Croce 2026 will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in the beautiful and historic city of Lucca. This deeply evocative religious celebration is one of the most important events in Lucca’s cultural and spiritual calendar, transforming the city into a glowing landscape of candlelight, prayer, and solemn procession. Luminara di Santa Croce is a religious feast held on the eve of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, celebrated every year on September 14. In both Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross honors the Cross itself as the supreme instrument of salvation, recalling its rediscovery and its central role in Christian theology. In Lucca, this universal Christian celebration takes on a distinctly local character, intimately connected to the city’s most revered sacred object: the Holy Face of Lucca (Volto Santo). On this occasion, the buildings, streets, churches, and squares of Lucca are decorated with thousands of candles, carefully placed to outline architectural details and illuminate the path of the solemn procession. This ancient tradition survives today in only a few Italian cities and is now common exclusively in Lucca for Luminara di Santa Croce and in Read more [...]

Buy tickets:TicketOne Lucca Summer Festival 2027 will celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of Italy’s longest-running major summer music festivals. Since its first edition in 1998, the event has brought international stars and leading Italian performers to Lucca, combining large-scale live music with the extraordinary setting of a historic Tuscan city. The festival differs from conventional multi-stage events because its concerts are integrated directly into Lucca’s urban landscape. Performances have traditionally taken place in Piazza Napoleone and, for particularly large productions, beside the Renaissance city walls, placing audiences within or immediately alongside the historic centre. Over almost three decades, Lucca Summer Festival has hosted artists representing rock, pop, jazz, soul, electronic music and Italian popular music. Its past programmes have included Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Ennio Morricone and many other internationally recognised performers. Lucca Summer Festival 2027 is therefore more than an opportunity to attend major concerts. Visitors can combine the festival with Lucca’s churches, medieval towers, Renaissance fortifications, museums and traditional cuisine, while Pisa, Florence, Viareggio and other Tuscan destinations are accessible for day trips or longer itineraries. The historic centre is compact enough to explore primarily on foot, while Lucca’s walls Read more [...]
