Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport is the main airport of Tuscany, located in Pisa, only a few minutes away from the city center.   SHORT HISTORY The origins of the airport date back to 1911, when Ugo and Guido Antoni transformed a piece of land into a flight field, to test the aircraft built by the Antoni Aviation Company. In 1914, the infrastructure was expanded with the construction of a military school for pilots. In the 1950s, began its development with the construction of two runways and related logistics facilities to ensure the operation of the military transport aircraft Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar, which was recently acquired. In the 1960s, the current civilian airport was born, named after the famous Pisan scientist Galileo Galilei. The CTT Nord (Compagnia Toscana Trasporti Nord) is a transport company founded in 2012, with offices in Pisa, Livorno and Prato, born from the aggregation of various companies engaged in local transport. Through its subsidiary, CPT (Consorzio Pisano Trasporti), the CTT Nord manages local public transport in Pisa, and extra-urban public transport in the province of Pisa.   ROUTES The urban service of Pisa is based on two main bus lines: LAM Rossa (red) and LAM Verde (green), connecting the main points of the city and the external car parks, supported by other bus lines that serve the suburban districts more precisely.   TIMETABLE The daily service on weekdays starts around 6.00 am in the morning and ends between 8.30 pm and 9.00 pm. After 9.00 pm, until about 12.00 am, the evening buses 21 and 22 are in service, which, by making rather circular routes, connect all the suburbs with the center.   FARES A simple ticket costs 1.5€. Pisa Mover is a people mover-type system inaugurated on March 18, 2017, in Pisa, which connects the Pisa Centrale train station to the Galileo Galilei Airport, with an intermediate stop at San Giusto/Aurelia, where two large parking lots are located. The track is 1.78 kilometers long, has 3 stops and follows the route of the previous Pisa Centrale-Pisa Airport railway, dismantled in 2013.   TIMETABLE With 2 shuttles in operation and 107 seats per shuttle, the service operates every day from 4.30 am to 1.30 am. In the busiest time slots, an average frequency of about 7 minutes is guaranteed, while in the morning, before 8.00 am, and in the evening, after 9.00 pm, the waiting times are between 12 and 15 minutes. The average travel time between the airport and the train station, including the intermediate stop, is approximately 5 minutes.   FARES A ticket from the Pisa Centrale train station to the Pisa International Airport, or vice versa, costs 5€. A round trip costs 10€. The fares are valid also for passengers who get the shuttle from the intermediate station.
