    Firenze Rocks 2019

    Firenze Rocks is a rock music festival that takes place every year in the month of June at the Visarno Arena, in the Parco delle Cascine, in Florence. Placebo, Aerosmith and System of a Down were just a few of the names who attended the first edition of the festival, in 2017. In 2018, in front of over 210,000 spectators, The Kills, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne appeared on stage.   FIRENZE ROCKS 2019, the third edition of the festival, will take place between 13 and 16 June. The first name announced is the English band The Cure, who will play on Sunday, June 16, at the Visarno Arena. To date, the band sold around 27 million records and released thirteen studio albums, ten EPs and over thirty singles. The second name that appears on the festival poster is Ed Sheeran, who will play on Friday, June 14, at the same Visarno Arena.     Luminara di San Ranieri 2019

    Luminara di San Ranieri is a candlelight festival that takes place every year in Pisa, on the night of June 16, and is dedicated to San Ranieri, the patron saint of the city. On this occasion, the city lights up with thousands of candles, creating an evocative and unique effect that seems to bring the visitors back in time. Every year, approximately 100,000 candles placed on wooden frames outline the architectural forms of the palaces, bridges, churches and towers that overlook the River Arno. Later, many of the candles are placed on water, on the same river, between the Fortezza Bridge and the Citadella Bridge, creating an enchanting play of lights and reflections. Along with the Palio di San Ranieri, the Gioco del Ponte and, every four years, the Regatta of the Historical Maritime Republics, the Luminaria is part of a series of events entitled Giugno Pisano (Pisan June).   SHORT HISTORY The first historical document attesting the tradition of illuminating the city of Pisa with oil lamps dates back to 1337. The Cure are a rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex, in 1976. Their debut album, Three Imaginary Boys, was released in 1979. Between 1980 and 2008, the band released another 12 studio albums: Seventeen Seconds (1980), Faith (1981), Pornography (1982), The Top (1984), The Head on the Door (1985), Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (1987), Disintegration (1989), Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996), Bloodflowers (2000), The Cure (2004) and 4:13 Dream (2008). During the years, songs such as Let’s Go to Bed (1982), Just Like Heaven (1987), Lovesong (1989) and Friday I’m in Love (1992) aided the band in receiving commercial popularity.     Giostra del Saracino – Giostra di San Donato 2019

    Giostra del Saracino (Saracen Joust) is one of the most important medieval festivals in Italy, held twice a year in Piazza Grande, in Arezzo. In the penultimate Saturday in June, during the evening, is held the Giostra di San Donato, dedicated to San Donato, the patron saint of Arezzo, and in the first Sunday of September, during the day, is held the Giostra della Madonna del Conforto, dedicated to Our Lady of Comfort, protector of the city. The Saracen Joust is a competition between the four Quarters of the city: the Porta Crucifera District, the Porta del Foro District, the Porta Sant’Andrea District and the Porta Santo Spirito District. The competition consists of hitting a target held by the Buratto, a revolving armor-plated dummy who personifies the King of the Indies. The participants, two of each team, eight in total, gallop their horses towards the Buratto, trying to hit the target with a lance. The couple of knights with the highest score win the competition.     The English pop group Take That will perform on Friday, June 28, 2019, in Piazza Napoleone, in Lucca, as part of the Lucca Summer Festival 2019.   THE BAND Take That was formed in Manchester in 1990. The original line-up consisted of five members: Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Jason Orange. Barlow acted as the group’s lead singer and main songwriter, with Owen and Williams providing backing vocals and Donald and Orange serving primarily as dancers. The group had 28 top 40 singles and 17 top 5 singles in the United Kingdom, 12 of which have reached number one, as well as having seven number one albums. They have received eight Brit Awards, winning awards for Best British Group and Best British Live Act. Robbie Williams left the band in 1995, while the four remaining members completed their world tour and released a final single before splitting up in 1996.     Lucca Summer Festival 2019

    Lucca Summer Festival is one of the most important music festivals in Italy, held every year in Lucca, usually during the month of July, since 1998. The concerts are usually held within the historic walls of Lucca, in Piazza Napoleone, Piazza San Martino or Piazza dell’Anfiteatro. Sometimes, when the audience is very large, it is preferred to use the Porta Elisa soccer stadium in Lucca or the Pini stadium in Viareggio. Over time, important bands and artists have attended the festival, such as David Bowie, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Mark Knopfler, Jamiroquai, Seal, Zucchero, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Anastacia, Giorgia, Green Day, Ennio Morricone and the Rolling Stones. On 5 July 2009, the Dave Matthews Band held a concert of over three and a half hours, the longest performance of their career. On 23 September 2017, was held the historic Rolling Stones concert, the only Italian date of the No Filter European tour, which established the attendance record for this event, of about 55,000 people.     Palio di Siena – Palio di Provenzano 2019

    Palio di Siena is a horce race held twice a year in Siena, on July 2, known as Palio di Provenzano, dedicated to the Madonna of Provenzano, and on August 16, under the title Palio dell’Assunta, in honor of the Assumption of Virgin Mary. Palio di Siena is an equestrian competition between the 17 contrade (districts) of the city, held in the beautiful Piazza del Campo. The race is preceded by the Corteo Storico, a parade of about 700 people dressed in medieval costumes.   SHORT HISTORY Horse races in Siena were held since the 13th century, when the Palio was the closing event of the annual festival dedicated to the patron saint of the town, the Virgin Mary of the Assumption. Initially, there were many contrade, but after the plague of 1347, their number was reduced to 42. A contrada was named after a street, a church or after an illustrious family residing on its territory. In 1605, the Captain Sigismondo Santi and the Cavalier Fortunio Martini made a proposal to the Municipality of Siena, to held the competition in Piazza del Campo. In 2000, Haggerty recorded a mixtape titled Open Your Eyes under the name Professor Macklemore. Later, Haggerty dropped Professor from his name and began working on his first official album, called The Language of My World, which was released on January 1, 2005. Macklemore’s second mixtape, The Unplanned Mixtape, was released on September 7, 2009. In the same year, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis formalized their collaboration as a duo. He was the lead guitarist, lead singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits, which he co-founded with his younger brother, David Knopfler, in 1977.     Palio di Siena – Palio dell’Assunta 2019

    Palio di Siena is a horse race between the 17 contrade (districts) of Siena, held twice a year in Piazza del Campo, the main square of the city. The Palio from July 2 is called Palio di Provenzano and it’s held in honor of the Madonna of Provenzano, and the one held on August 16 is called Palio dell’Assunta, and is dedicated to the Assumption of Virgin Mary. The race is preceded by Corteo Storico, a historical parade which includes about 700 participants representing the 17 contrade and the institutions of the ancient Republic of Siena. In the afternoon, the procession starts from Piazza del Duomo and, after parading on the streets of the historical center of the town, arrives on the beautiful shell-shaped square Piazza del Campo. The actual race consists in circling three times the Piazza del Campo. A contrada bears the name of a street, a church or of an illustrious family residing on its territory.
